Firstly, it should be said that the community currency movement is not a new concept. It is as old as time itself! Aboriginal groups traded rocks, bones, teeth, and other items of nature as identifiers of exchange. These items were not backed by gold, silver, or any other precious metal. They were backed simply by the skills and integrity of the individual and further backed by the tribe or nation that they belonged to.
If individuals required more currency they did not need to go to the chief or to a bank. They simply guaranteed more products or services that were abundantly available. In aboriginal systems of commerce, there was no scarcity of currency.
Somewhere along the way, we went down the wrong path and started seeing currency as a profit centre instead of as a tool of commerce.
A review of all the ancient holy books clearly shows that our ancestors understood that currency was not constructed to be anything other than an instrument to facilitate the measurement and tracking of exchanges.
Today, the community currency movement is tapping into these time honoured concepts and is intending to provide a vehicle for community members to conduct exchanges of products and services and not on the currency that facilitates the exchange.
There exists two schools of community currency in the movement: The community currency movement and the Time currency movement. Both movements, in our estimation, are honourable and share a commonality in that the currency used is not the element that generates profit.
OUR COMMUNITY CURRENCY INC intends to support both of these movements. The first phase of develpoment is the launching of the OUR Community Dollar™ program which functions in the world of the dollar exchanges.
OUR COMMUNITY CURRENCY INC is committed to launching a second phase of commerce that supports the time hour currency. This phase can only be established once the first phase of development reaches critical mass.
With the launching of the OUR Community Hour™ program as phase two of this project, OUR Community Dollar™ traders will be able to exchange with OUR Community Hour traders.
